Alduin in Ballpoint Pen by Ga-Maleven Alduin in Ballpoint Pen by Ga-Maleven
Alduin, the World Eater, property of Bethesda from their game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Ballpoint pen on bristol paper

So, I was bored and thus took my sister's favorite pen and drew Alduin. I almost drained the pen of all the ink!!! :evillaugh: So, it kind of reminds me of a tribal tattoo. Meh, you want to get this tattooed on your body, fine by me. Just give credit to me. :)

And here's the World Eater himself. I like how Alduin's horns curve like that because they give me the impression of a crown, making his status as the World Eater and lord of dragons that much more clear.

Hmmm, I suppose they do curve into a crown, sort of. He probably should have a few more large spikes on his head to complete the illusion. =P

Some of the best crowns are those that simple. If Alduin's curved horns evoke the image of a crown to me, then they're all that's needed.

Starscream's crown is pretty simple, and yet, elegant.

I have some more in this style if you care to see. :meow: Also, some other pen art that I did while in class. ;) I find pen the easiest medium to work with, thus doing almost all my concept art in it. Have so much control while giving all the needed details. :) Also depends on the type of pen. Cheaper pens are best for the artwork that I have done my concept art in, with making values, etc. while those pens that bleed ink heavily are best for this type of style. :)

I used to work with pens quite a bit years ago, but I never could get into THAT level of detail with the things. Can't help but be impressed.

Sounds like I have a whole gallery to look into then. ^^ Will do that presently!

Just need some practice, is all. :) You get the hang of things after several drawings with certain mediums.

Yes, lots and lots of artwork to go through! ;) The albums labelled "... Concept Art and Artwork" are filled with art for my stories, so a lot of pen concept art is in those. Some of that concept art is older or done fairly quickly so is not the greatest. And, that's probably only 2 thirds of all the concept art I've ever drawn for my stories. I have  a lot more that I have not uploaded to this site. =P

Wow. I don't understand how you even *can* draw something like this with a ballpoint pen. How on earth do you prevent it from smudging?

Ballpoint pen in my opinion is the easiest medium to work with. So much control you can do more details. :meow: And, to keep it from smudging I just make sure I do not touch it until it is dry. Usually work from the left side to the right (if right handed) to ensure no smudging of artwork for any medium, but I am terrible at following rules. When you work with a certain medium for a while you "understand" it and can just be all like "whatever" with it and still not mess up. I am very bad about being all "whatever." I really should be more careful... I'm not the best artist in the world and I'm trying hard to improve, but as long as I get the feeling of the mediums I work with, I'm on the right track to being a great artist. :)

Wow that's a lot of detail DX
I stick with more cartoonish styles which don't require a lot of detail.

I prefer simple animations (Like my cheesy icon) over detailed drawings

I love details!!!! :XD: I want to be a creature concept artist for the movie and gaming industries, so I have to be pretty good with details for animals, such as muscles, scales, spikes, fur, claws, eyes, etc. So, I work a lot with biologic details and try to improve my skills with them. I'm not the best, but I'm getting better. :)

Everyone has their own styles. I'd rather be good at cartoon animations before getting into big details :)

Yeah, especially if you want to get a job at a cartoonish or only do art for a hobby, then you don't have to push yourself "as hard" to be all "good" with art. =P I've worked so much on my realism that I honesty am bad with cartoonish style art. :/ Maybe I just haven't figured out a style that I like... I have my quick sketch style, but that is still realism, just without as much detail.

I usually start at a certain difficulty, then when I think I've become too much a monster for that difficulty I bump it up to the next. Right now, I am on Expert.
